All teams and individuals are asked to follow these specific guidelines.

  • Each team has a designated sculpturing/building area of 6 metres by 6 metres.
  • Each Individual has a designated sculpturing/building area of 6 meters by 3 meters.
  • Only biodegradable decorative materials such as shells or seaweed may be used.
  • Food colouring and flour are permitted, but adhesives of any kind are not allowed.
  • Each team is expected to build their sculpture with hand tools only such as masonry, garden or household implements, shovels and tampers, and are allowed.
  • No Power Tools are allowed (including battery operated ones).
  • Water containers for builders can be filled ahead of time and stored outside the building plot.
  • Watering of your plot can begin one hour prior to competition start time. There is no limit to the number of water carriers, but they must stay outside the plot.
  • Formwork can be used and removed as each stage is completed.
  • In your pack you will have the judging sheets so you will know what the judges are looking for.
  • Please keep your plots clean and free of litter.
  • We request that you bring flags, so they can be flown during the event.
  • Teams are responsible for their own food, water bottles, sunscreen, etc.
  • Form work can comprise of wooden/plastic, bottomless boxes or containers to ram sand to make your base for sand sculpturing.
